Biography

Michael Ochsner studied sociology, social pedagogy and environmental sciences and received his PhD in sociology at the University of Zurich in 2014. From 2009 until 2020, he worked at ETH Zurich in the field of research evaluation. Since 2013, he has been working at FORS as a senior researcher in the International Surveys team. He is Chair of the Scientific Committee of the European Values Study, President of the European Network for Research Evaluation in the Social Sciences and Humanities ENRESSH, member of the Editorial Advisory Panel of Nature’s Humanities and Social Science Communications, in the Editorial Advisory Board of Research Evaluation and in the Scientific Advisory Board on Research Assessment of the Swiss Academy of Sciences.

Expertise

Michael Ochsner is involved in the implementation of the ESS and MOSAiCH in Switzerland. His research spans over survey methodology, research on welfare state and solidarity, work-life conflict was well as research evaluation and research policy. He received funding from Horizon 2020 leading the Swiss part of the ERANET-RUS project “Public Attitudes to Welfare, Climate Change and Energy in the EU and Russia (PAWCER)” and as a co-initiator of the COST-Action CA15137 ENRESSH “European Network for Research Evaluation in the SSH” (www.enressh.eu) as well as from swissuniversities. He acted as a consultant for a Swiss city, the Swiss Science Council, the Swiss National Science Foundation, the Portuguese Science and Technology Foundation (FCT) and the Macedonian Ministry of Education and Science regarding survey methodology, research evaluation and research policy.
