UNIL Commuting and Campus Dining Offer Survey 2025

Presentation of the Survey

The management of the University of Lausanne, represented by Benoit Frund, has commissioned FORS (Swiss Centre of Competence in the Social Sciences) to carry out a survey on the commuting practices of UNIL community and the dining offers on Dorigny campus. The two surveys, which were previously separate, were merged into one in order to reduce the burden on the UNIL community.

The results of the dining offers survey will help us to better understand your expectations and to propose changes in the services offered by the restaurants. The results of previous surveys conducted in 2013, 2016, 2018 and 2023 can be consulted here.

Regarding commuting, the survey, which has been carried out since 2005, provides useful information for improving the accessibility of the campus. It is also supported by the management of Lausanne Public Transport (TL), which takes it into account when planning its services. The results of previous surveys can be found here.

To carry out this survey, we ask you to fill in a questionnaire which should take about 15 minutes.

It is entirely up to you whether you want to take part. You can refuse to answer certain questions or even stop the questionnaire at any time without any consequences.

Data Collection

The questionnaire is programmed and hosted on the Qualtrics XM commercial data collection platform – hereinafter “the platform” – which specialises in providing survey management solutions. The Platform is owned by Qualtrics LLC, hereinafter referred to as “Qualtrics”, which is based in the United States and acts as a subcontractor for the questionnaire (contact and data collection).

Invitations to participate in the survey are managed through the platform, based on a list of contacts obtained from the UNIL CI and provided to Qualtrics by FORS. Addresses, names and other contact information will be used for communication purposes only and will not be linked in any way to responses submitted.

Qualtrics may collect IP addresses and browser location data to enable certain features, such as pausing and resuming the survey at a later time. However, this data is permanently deleted at the end of the data collection process.

Throughout the data collection process, data is recorded and stored in encrypted form on Qualtrics servers located in the European Union. At the end of the data collection process, all data is permanently deleted from Qualtrics servers and stored in encrypted form on secure servers in Switzerland. For more information about Qualtrics, please visit their website.

Confidentiality

Once the data has been collected, FORS will de-identify the data for the purposes of data storage. Any information that directly identifies participants will be permanently deleted. Variables that would allow the identity of participants to be deduced by cross-referencing or other statistical operations will be subject to specific processing (e.g. aggregation) to reduce the risk of re-identification as far as possible and on a permanent basis.

The de-identified data will be used by FORS, which will perform statistical analyses and produce a set of anonymised results (graphs and tables), which will be presented to management and partially published in the form of a report. The results will be aggregated information only. It will not be possible to identify you.

De-identified data will be stored on secure FORS servers hosted at UNIL, to which only FORS and the UNIL IT Centre have access. Additional analysis may be carried out by FORS at the exclusive request of the Management. Only FORS is authorised to carry out these analyses. The results will only be communicated to the Management and the Human Resources Department in a form that does not allow the identification of specific cases. Any attempt to isolate individuals is strictly forbidden.

Publication of Data

Some of the data will be interpreted and summarised in the form of a report published on the dedicated UNIL web pages. Anonymised data from the mobility section will be made available on request to the university community for study or teaching purposes.
