Corrigendum in regard to the below message on statistical analysis packages. The IT team is not, as announced last time, working on this project. The IT just informs us that they got the information from CESSDA since the NSD is involved in this project (see below message)

Information from the CESSDA technical group:
C2METADATA (Continuous Capture of Metadata) Project: Many scientists in a wide variety of disciplines use statistical analysis packages (SPSS, Stata, SAS, R) for data management and data transformations. These packages include limited metadata, and they do not record provenance information about data transformations. Consequently, metadata are created by hand after data transformations have been completed. This is a slow, inefficient process and much valuable information is lost.
The C²Metadata Project will create a continuous workflow for metadata creation by automating the capture of data transformations performed by statistical analysis software.

DARIS succeeded in getting some work from CESSDA in regard to the European Question Database that they have been trying to start for so long.
Within the project, all partners can now work on all the details regarding the implementation of the Question Database.
    In short:
This project is one of the pre-allocated tasks of GESIS and will make it possible to assign specific work to CESSDA partners who will contribute. Currently, the following additional partners are included.
    •    FORS, Switzerland
    •    FSD, Finland
    •    NSD, Norway
    •    UKDA, Great BritainThe project management will be done by GESIS. The software development will be done mainly by GESIS, and be supported by NSD and FSD. Content provision will be done by all partners, and testing will be conducted by FORS, FSD and UKDA.
The aim is to develop and implement a central search facility across all CESSDA’s survey holdings in a way which provides as much coverage of questions used in surveys as possible.
The Euro Question Bank will link national question data banks or such that are provided by specific survey series providers (e.g. ESS) and provide an accessible single point of entry for question discovery and survey creation. Users will be the researchers in any country seeking questions that pertain to their research interests.04.03.16

We are happy to announce that FORS has won a European project together with GESIS and partners in Russia, Belgium, United Kingdom, Austria, France, and Finland. It is entitled “PAWCER – Public Attitudes to Welfare, Climate Change and Energy in the EU and Russia”. Its aim is a) to reintegrate Russia into the ESS and b) to study cultural commonalities and differences between Europe and Russia regarding attitudes towards the welfare state and environmental issues.
FORS takes an important part in research on comparability issues (pre- and post field work) as well as on welfare state. Michael has contributed considerably to the scientific content of the proposal. In-house, Peter, Michèle and Michael are responsible for the Swiss project. The project will start in October and lasts until March 2018.

In the framework of the Indo-Swiss Joint Research Programme in the Social Sciences and the Seed Money Grant we are happy to announce that the following project was selected for funding:
Multidimensional Well-being: Conceptual, Methodological, and Analytical Perspectives
The project was handed in by Prof. Christian Suter,  Prof. Peter Farago, Simona Jehane,  Franziska Ehrler  and  Professsors from Bangalore and Karnataka.

The proposed project brings together, over the next two years, Swiss researchers from the University of Neuchâtel and from FORS/University of Lausanne with Indian researchers from the Bangalore-based Institute for Social and Economic Change. Research interests of both, Swiss and Indian project participants, focus on the analysis of social, economic, political, cultural, environmental and demographic change in their countries (including their impact on well-being and quality of life). The project will benefit from three main synergies: (1) multidisciplinarity: the network is composed of researchers from different disciplines within social sciences, notably sociology, economics, demography, political science and environmental economics. This allows to adequately deal with the multidimensionality of well-being, in particular the social, economic, political and environmental aspects of well-being. (2) Conceptual, methodological and analytical expertise: the network encompasses specialist expertise from different well-being domains as well as from different theoretical and methodological perspectives. (3) Cultural diversity and comparative perspective: For both, the Swiss and the Indian research groups, the project is an opportunity to develop a comparative approach and to validate their research on well-being in their own country a culturally and structurally rather different context. This cross-cultural perspective and exchange will increase our knowledge not only regarding new comparative insights, but also regarding the own country-specific expertise.

We are pleased to announce that we got the bid from Pro Infirmis to conduct an empirical study entitled
Attitudes in the Swiss population regarding the concerns of people with disabilities.  Pro Infirmis intends to establish a monitoring about the attitudes of the people living in Switzerland towards the concerns of people with disabilities. At regular intervals, representative and nation-wide surveys will be conducted by FORS. Content-wise, questions evolve around the dealing with people with disabilities, the assessment of their situation, stereotypes, acceptance of claims and actions of people with disabilities.
The repetitive nature of the project allows to identify developments in these areas and to properly analyse them. The project may also give FORS a great visibility, especially through the central role that Pro Infirmis plays in their field.
Involved in this project are Peter, as project manager, Boris as co-project manager, the operational scientific work is headed by Michèle. Franziska Ehrler will be responsible for the development and implementation of the social indicators, Nicolas handles the technical aspects and Flurina takes over the academic editing of the project.
